Care and Support
Gulf Model School believes that every school increasingly needs to be responsive and a caring place to help all students through many important transitions on the way to becoming independent and responsible adults. The school has an incredible multicultural environment, hence counselling is given in a sensitive manner to our students by respecting their cultural differences and values in all our counselling sessions and consultations.
At Gulf Model School, counselling and guidance play an integral part of an educational programme. The purpose of counseling and guidance at GMS is to address the needs of all students by facilitating their academic, career, and personal/social development, as well as helping them to create a positive and safe learning environment. Counsellors assist students as they face issues and resolve problems that may prevent their healthy development. There are sequential activities organized and implemented by school counsellors with the active support of parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and the community.
We expect all students to work to the best of their ability to be :
• Independent & Reflective Problem Solvers
• Inquiring, Knowledgeable and Skilled Learners
• Effective Communicators
• Self-directed and Composed Individuals
• Responsible, Caring and Ethical Contributors
We thrive to help our students by helping them make the decisions that ensure career success by providing seminars on career development, inviting guest speakers, visits to career fairs, universities, conducting aptitude tests etc. We also encourage the parents to be a part of all our support programmes.
Learning support is an essential part of the support services
Learning support team (LST) works closely with staff in order to support all students academic, personal, emotional and social well being. The support is available from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Individual needs are identified by comprehensive observation, interaction, and assessment. LST takes a parent’s consent in order to start giving support. The team provides three levels of support, the level of support varies, depending upon the degree of learning concerns. We give training to teachers; to accommodate every individuals need in the classroom environment. With the help of teachers and parents’ inputs; Learning support team designs an Individual Education Plan (IEP) /Individual Action Plan (IAP)/Individual Behaviour Plan (IBP) and modified the curriculum according to individual needs for the specific and effective learning outcomes. The Learning support team also supports students who find challenges in specific areas, but may not have special education needs.
The Learning support team also identifies Gifted and Talented(G&T) students through observation, screening tests, parent’s nomination and external assessments. Appropriate classroom activities which are challenging to them are included with regular classroom lessons. Flexible grouping within classrooms provide opportunity for the G&T students to work either individually or with other gifted/potentially gifted students.
